Chris Arsenault devoted his life to caring for those that others had forgotten. After experiencing a profound personal loss, he found new purpose when he discovered a colony of sick cats near train tracks in Long Island. There were about 30 of them, in poor condition and with no one to care for them. Driven by compassion, he brought them into his home, offering food, medical attention, and kindness. In that act, he found healing and a renewed reason to carry on.
That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would change many lives. Chris turned his home into Happy Cat Sanctuary—a safe haven for hundreds of stray and abandoned cats. Over time, he adapted his entire property to their needs, building heated spaces, cozy blankets, elevated perches, and areas designed for their comfort. He kept only a small bedroom for himself, dedicating the rest to his feline companions.
To Chris, each cat was a unique being deserving of love and dignity. Every day, he cooked fresh meals for them, ensured they received medical care, and surrounded them with warmth and affection. He often said that during his darkest days, they gave him a reason to wake up each morning.
Tragically, one day a fire broke out at the sanctuary. When Chris noticed what was happening, he did everything he could to protect his beloved cats. His dedication was complete, as it had always been. While authorities are still investigating the cause, it is suspected that the fire may have been intentional, as there had been complaints from neighbors in the past. Still, Chris never let criticism stop him. He stayed true to what he believed was right: giving a second chance to those most in need.
Today, volunteers and animal welfare groups are working tirelessly to relocate the surviving cats, while people across the country remember the deep impact Chris had on so many lives. His legacy continues through the compassion he embodied—a powerful example of kindness and selfless service.
